Mr. Baraka Aloyce Onjare

Baraka Aloyce Onjare is a digital health consultant with 17 years of experience in developing innovative technological solutions for public health. As a member of KNCV Tanzania, he brings extensive expertise in digital health systems, particularly in the adaptation and implementation of Digital Adherence Technologies (DAT).

Mr. Onjare previously served as the IT Manager for the Tanzanian National TB and Leprosy Programme, where he designed and implemented one of the first case-based DHIS2 trackers for managing TB patients in Tanzania, successfully replacing paper records at the district level.

His experience includes leading two funded research projects that provided evidence on the impact of Digital Adherence Technologies on TB treatment outcomes. These implementation research initiatives focused on introducing digital tools and gathering insights to inform policies and guidelines, collaborating with prominent researchers worldwide.

Currently, Mr. Onjare serves as a Regional Digital Health Consultant, providing technical assistance on Digital Adherence Technology projects. He supports a patient-centered framework and DAT implementation in several African countries including Eswatini, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Lesotho. His contributions include integrating smart pill boxes into the DHIS2 system and developing a publicly available generic DHIS2 adherence app.

Mr. Onjare also led the adaptation of the WHO Prevent TB app for the Tanzanian DHIS2 instance, focusing on the management of TB preventive therapy. His current work involves revamping the USSD mobile self-screening app for digital active case finding to locate undiagnosed TB patients, with a focus on creating sustainable implementation strategies.
