Edgar is a Medical Laboratory Scientist with more than fifteen years of experience in bacteriology, serology, and mycobacteriology. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Dar es Salaam, and I am currently pursuing a Master’s in Monitoring and Evaluation at the Open University of Tanzania. My professional journey has been driven by a passion for strengthening tuberculosis (TB) diagnostic laboratories, advancing quality assurance systems, and expanding the use of molecular technologies to improve public health outcomes.

Over the years, I have contributed to establishing and strengthening TB laboratories across Tanzania, including setting up the Kibong’oto Infectious Disease Hospital Laboratory and mentoring the Central Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory (CTRL) towards ISO 15189 accreditation. I have supported the rollout of advanced diagnostic techniques such as GeneXpert and Line Probe Assays in multiple zonal laboratories, ensuring timely and accurate TB diagnosis nationwide. I have also been deeply involved in developing laboratory documents, training frameworks, and strategic plans that continue to guide TB diagnostic services in the country.

I have served in senior technical and leadership roles with the Ministry of Health, KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, PATH, and the National Institute for Medical Research. In these positions, I advised national programs, coordinated laboratory networks, supervised technical teams, and collaborated with international partners to strengthen laboratory systems. My work has consistently emphasized capacity building, supply chain optimization, and diagnostic connectivity to enhance efficiency and reliability.

I am committed to ensuring that laboratory services remain robust, efficient, and responsive to the needs of patients and communities. My mission is to contribute to effective TB control and improved public health outcomes in Tanzania through innovation, collaboration, and dedication to excellence.
